About Group Therapy
What is Group Therapy?
Group Therapy through support groups cradle our basic human need for companionship and esteem by creating a nurturing environment to intimately connect and relate. They can be a place to quietly listen to the experience of another, share wisdom, or reach out for help. Often times, when seeking to make changes, the goal can seem painfully far out of reach and the process can be profoundly challenging. It is through the reflection of ourselves in our predecessors that we can gain some hope in carving out our desired path. Likewise, it reinforces our strength to be an example of what we have learned to those whom we can offer compassion and guidance.
Support Groups at Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat
While personalized attention is the primary focus at Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat Center, support groups are offered as a powerful enhancement to those in the Lifestyle Changes program. Each group is organically tailored to the needs of the participating individuals and offers a space to meditate, make deep self-discoveries, share struggles and triumphs, cry, or laugh together and enjoy company. Long lasting, supportive relationships are naturally cultivated by empowering one and other to create the life they dream of.
Support Groups at Home
Participants are encouraged to find a group at home that will focus on similar issues that they are facing. There are free, anonymous twelve step programs all over the world for codependence, food, alcohol, drug, and/or nicotine addiction. A women’s empowerment group, self-defense group or specific therapy group may be more applicable, depending on the needs of the individual. Group therapy is different from individual therapy in that you may learn from others while developing a fellowship that can support you, hold you accountable, and be an ideal ground to safely practice new acquired behaviors.
Group Therapy as an Organic Process
Group therapy is often an organic process as what transpires during the session is drawn from the group. One group session always differs from the next and can sometimes focus on a creative activity. Group participants who come with an open heart learn from each other and contribute to each other’s path of discovery and healing. Our positive psychology approach uses and exposes any creative talents to help patients find a purpose and motivation to be responsible for their mental and physical health.

What Others Say
I learned about Breathwork, it was great, and have been slowly decreasing my meds. In two weeks, my Ativan dosage is lowered from 2 mg to NONE and I’m slowly lowering my SSRI dosage. I think my EFT sessions with Lilia were most beneficial, a lot came out in those. Although I only had a few sessions of The Work, I find that I am able to use those tools, of understanding my thoughts, often.
I received more affective psychotherapy treatment from Lilia in five sessions than going to my therapist back home for weekly sessions over a year and a half. My first Reichian Breathwork session with Dr. Baylac healed my deep grief about losing my father two years ago. I have felt peace about him ever since. I received great insight and perspective on anything that had been upsetting me over the past 15 years.
Breathwork and EFT were most beneficial for me. I had been to counselors before and had not made much progress. My issues were on the surface at the retreat and both techniques really pulled stuff out. They were like an emotional castor oil pack – drawing the impurities out of my soul.
Part of my therapy for the month that I was there was breathwork. I had emotions that Dr. Baylac helped me discover and then let go of. Without going into too much detail I had a less than favorable childhood with an abusive father. The gently supportive breathwork helped me open up my blocked emotions that I held in my throat and my stomach.
At Hawaii Naturopathic Retreat we discuss feelings, learn mindfulness, process the past, grief and pain and explore ways of coping with anxiety, depression and fear. Don’t let the past or future paralyze you. Live the life you deserve!
